Men's Lacrosse Rolls to Second Straight Victory, 18-4

Covino, McCreery, Brennan Each Net Three

Gwynedd Valley, PA – Sophomore JOE COVINO scored three times as did TYLER MCCREERY and ROBERT BRENNAN as Montclair State won its second straight contest, rolling past Gwynedd Mercy, 18-4 on Saturday afternoon.

MIKE MCCREERY added a pair of goals as the Red Hawks evened their record at 2-2.

Covino, who netted the game-winning goal in Wednesday's overtime win over Neumann, got Montclair on the board 49 seconds into the game. After the Griffins (0-2) tied it two minutes later, TYLER MCCREERY answered and man-up goals by CHRISTIAN BOYLE, and AIDAN MAXWELL helped MSU to a 4-1 lead after the first.  

Each put a goal on the board in the second sending the Red Hawks into halftime with a 5-2 lead. Gwynedd got the first goal to open the third, however, Montclair countered with the next 13 goals, including nine to close out the third. Covino got the run started with his seventh of the year with Brennan and MIKE MCCREERY scoring 20 seconds apart for an 8-3 advantage. CONNOR MCCOY connected with 4:21 left and two goals by TYLER MCCREERY extended the lead to 11-3 with under two minutes.

Montclair capped off its explosive third period with three goals in the final 46 seconds, the last by Brenann with eight ticks remaining.

Freshman ANDREA FIORENZA won 12-of-15 faces for MSU. WILSON SMITH forced a pair of turnovers and recorded six ground balls while goalkeeper MATTHEW MCLAREN stopped six shots before giving way to Tom Pollack, who had two in the final eight-plus minutes.

The Red Hawks are now off until Saturday, April 3 when it opens its Colonial States Athletic Conference slate. MSU hosts Stockton University under the lights of Sprague Field at 7:00 pm. It will be the first meeting between the two since the 2019 CSAC Championship Game won by the Ospreys.
