Mens Lacrosse Pulls Away from Susquehanna for Third Straight Win, 19-8

Red Hawks Tally Final Eight Goals

Montclair, NJ – Attackman MIKE MCCREERY scored four times with CHRISTIAN BOYLE adding three goals and two assists as Montclair State scored the final eight goals in a 19-8 victory over Susquehanna at Sprague Field on Saturday afternoon.

TYLER MCCREERY added two goals and two assists as the Red Hawks (3-2) pulled away in the final 16 minutes for their third straight victory. JOE COVINO and MATT DANCSECS each registered two goals and two assists.

MSU jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter as TYLER MCCREERY and MIKE MCCREERY scored 17 second apart two minutes into the contest. CONNOR MCCOY registered a goal and scored after another MIKE MCCREERY tally for the five-goal advantage. The River Hawks (0-2) responded with the next four goals, the last by Logan Frank with 27 seconds left. But Dancsecs beat the first-quarter horn, scoring with a second left as Montclair led 6-4.

The Red Hawks led 8-5 at halftime and held a 9-7 advantage with six minutes to go in the third. Boyle and Covino connected on goals 30 seconds apart to boost the lead to 11-7 with 4:19 left. Jake Turner cut the deficit back to three a minute later, however that would be the last goal Susquehanna would get.

Boyle notched the final goal of the third with TYLER MCCREERY and McCoy scoring early in the fourth making the score 14-8. Dancsecs netted a goal with 8:31 to go before Covino and AIDAN MAXWELL recorded man-up goals inside six minutes remaining boosting the MSU lead to 17-8.

Defenseman WILSON SMITH and Maxwell had the final two goals for the Red Hawks.

Faceoff specialist KYLE MATTHEWS had a solid day winning 19-of-25 with eight ground balls. Smith forced three turnovers with KYLE BIRKNER and PATRICK PELUSO posting two apiece. MATTHEW MCLAREN stopped six shots.

Montclair State is now off until Saturday, April 3 when it hosts Stockton at Sprague Field in the Colonial States Athletic Conference opener for both teams. It will be the first meeting between the two since the 2019 CSAC title game won by the Ospreys.
