Five Different Red Hawks Net Goals in Win

Montclair, NJ: The Montclair State women's soccer team outshot Kean 32-2 en route to a 5-0 shutout victory at MSU Soccer Park at Pittser Field Saturday.

Seniors PHOEBE BLEDSOE and NICOLE CARBONE combined to make two saves in the win for the Red Hawks (2-0-1, 2-0-1 NJAC), who defeated the Cougars (0-2-1, 0-2-1 NJAC) for the second straight season. MSU is unbeaten against Kean in the last 14 meetings.

The Red Hawks needed just 3:51 to take the lead for good in today's win. Off a corner kick, the ball caromed around to freshman TARA LAMBERT. Lambert served a cross into the box, where senior CATHERINE CARNEVALE headed the pass in past goalkeeper Marissa Cook. Cook kept the Cougars in the game, stopping a trio of shot attempts early on.

The Cougars looked to equalize, but Bledsoe stopped Sarah Weiner in the 15th for her first save. The Red Hawks doubled their lead in the 23rd minute, with sophomore SOFIA AMBROSIO netting her first in a Red Hawk uniform. Just three minutes later, rookie LAUREN ERNST netted her first collegiate marker off a feed from sophomore PAIGE YOCUM.

Montclair State looked to have an additional goal in the 56th minute, but EMILY DEGEYTER's shot in the bottom right of the goal was cleared off the line by a Cougar defender, keeping the score at 3-0. As time ticked away, Montclair added two late goals. First, in the 70th minute, MADDIE MUSICO broke the through for her first of the year.

Sophomore SAMANTHA SENATORE capped off the scoring in the 80th minute, knocking in a pass from rookie OLIVIA KEDZIORA. Kean had one attempt in the period, but Carbone made the save in the 70th minute.

Sophomore Chisom Onyewyenyi led MSU with eight shots, while Ambrosio had five. Sarah Weiner had both shots for Kean, while Cook made 13 saves.

The Red Hawks close out the home slate on Thursday, hosting William Paterson at 4 pm.
