Camden, NJ – The Montclair State women's soccer team battled host Rutgers University-Camden to a scoreless draw Wednesday night.
The Red Hawks (3-0-2, 3-0-2 NJAC) outshot the Scarlet Raptors (4-0-1, 4-0-1) 11-8, but the hosts held a slim 4-3 margin in shots on goal.
Neither side put an attempt on target for a majority of the first half, but Montclair scored in the 23rd minute as
KERRI DRISCOLL's header went high. The visitors had the lone shot on goal in the period as sophomore
CHISOM ONYEWUENYI had her attempt with 43 seconds left in the stanza stopped.
Senior net-minder
PHOEBE BLEDSOE was tested early in the second period, stopping two shots in the first five minutes. Bledsoe again came up big in the 74th and 75th minute, making a pair of stops on Ava Pizzaro. Montclair mustered only one shot in the 45 minutes, a chance from
SAMANTHA GABRIELE that sailed high.
After a shot-free first overtime, Onyewuenyi had one saved by Chloe Beasley 1:48 into the second extra session. Beasley made one final denial late in the period, stopping Lambert with 22 ticks left on the clock.
Onyewuenyi, Ambrosio, and Lambert all tallied two shots in the draw, while Bledsoe made four saves. Beasley made three saves for Rutgers-Camden.
