Montclair, NJ – Senior Megan Mahalstadt scored five goals and registered two assists as No. 23/15 Montclair State scored the first eight of the game and cruised to a 15-3 victory over Kean University at Sprague Field on Tuesday evening.
Senior
BRITTANY COSTIGAN added two goals and became the all-time MSU lead for draw controls as the Red Hawks (4-0) remained unbeaten on the season while improving to 2-0 in the NJAC. MSU also picked up its second straight victory against Kean having defeated the Cougars, 14-5 in non-conference action last week.
The Red Hawks wasted little time getting on the board as
TRISTIN KONEN scored 48 seconds into the contest. Mahlstadt tallied with 28:55 remaining and set up Costigan 36 seconds later making the score 3-0. The same combination produced the fourth goals and Mahlstadt netted her second with 17:33 to play as MSU went up 5-0.
HALEY DORAN sandwiched a pair of goals around Mahlstadt's third extending the lead to 8-0 before the Cougars snapped the run on a goal by Dana Meehan with just under 11 minutes left before halftime.
AMBER GONZALEZ fed
RHIANNON BROWN for the last MSU goal of the half as the Red Hawks took a 9-1 lead into halftime.
Costigan entered the game with 318 draws, three shy of Kailee Beal's mark of 321 from 2010-13. Costigan, who finished with seven, won the opening draw and tied the mark with 28:19 remaining. She then surpassed the record six minutes later pulling in her 322
nd after the Red Hawks' fourth goal.
Brown sparked a six-goal spurt by Montclair to open the second half. Her third of the game came 3:12 into the period with Konen having a hand in the next three, scoring two straight for a 13-1 lead with 14:22 to play. Brown added her third five minutes later before Mahlstadt closed out the Red Hawks scoring with her 11
th of the year.

AMBER GONZALEZ. Brown, who finished with three goals and two assists, had two ground balls.
