Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

McCreery's Career Day Sends Men's Lacrosse Past Bryn Athyn 19-5

Junior Netted Two Goals and Eight Assists; Reached 100 Career Points

Montclair, NJ -  TYLER MCCREERY became just the fourth student-athlete in program history to notch 10 points in a game as men's lacrosse downed Bryn Athyn 19-5 Saturday.

McCreery, who also reached 100 career points, joins current Assistant Coach MATT HAEMMERLE, Kevin Oxley, and George Nucera to tally 10 points in a game. Nucera had 17 against CCNY in 1979, while Haemmerle had 11 against both Mount St. Vincent and Kean. The Budd Lake, NJ native, handed out eight assists, two shy of Oxley's mark set in 1982 against FDU-Teaneck.

Much like last week, the Red Hawks (5-3, 2-1 CSAC) controlled play from the jump. JOE COVINO opened the scoring 40 seconds in, and the Red Hawks opened up a 9-0 lead after the first period. More impressively, the team had eight different goal-scorers, as only MATT DANCSECS had more than one in the opening period.

McCreery had a hand in six straight goals spanning the first, second, and third quarters. He assisted on ROBERT BRENNAN's marker to close out the first period and then picked up a helper on all four goals in the second stanza. CHRISTIAN BOYLE was the recipient of three of those assists, as he scored a pair of man-up goals and an even-strength goal during the spurt.

The junior hit the century mark in the third quarter, assisting on MATT DANCSECS third goal of the afternoon. The Lions (2-1, 2-1 CSAC) scored three times to cut into the lead, but Dancsecs, DJ BARANIUK, and JON LANZALOTTO recorded tallies in the final period to end the scoring.

Like last week, all three goalkeepers saw action. MATTHEW MCLAREN started and played 24:06, making five saves, while TOM POLLOCK stopped two shots in 23:12. CHRISTIAN WAGNER was the final keeper, making three saves in the final 12:42.

Montclair went 21-of-27 on face-offs, with rookie DAVID DRISCOLL going a perfect 8-of-8. WILSON SMITH, KYLE BIRKNER, JEFF FELTER, and PADRAIC FINNEGAN all caused three turnovers, with Smith leading the way with six ground balls.

The Red Hawks hit the road for their final three games, beginning Tuesday. Montclair faces off against CSAC rival Centenary at 4 pm.
