Big First Quarter Leads to Big Victory for Men's Lacrosse, 21-3

Fourteen Players Register Points as MSU Wins Fourth in a Row

Rosemont, PA – Montclair State's JOE COVINO and ROBERT BRENNAN each scored three goals as the Red Hawks used an offensive explosion in the opening period and rolled to a 21-3 victory over Rosemont College on Saturday afternoon.

TYLER MCCREERY finished with two goals and four assists as the Red Hawks scored nine times in the first and never looked back as it won for the fourth straight contest, improving to 7-3 overall, 4-1 in CSAC play.

MSu scored 64 seconds into the contest as Brennan finished off a feed from WILSON SMITH for the game's first goal. McCreey set up CHRISTIAN BOYLE a minute later before he an McCreery scored 13 seconds apart making the score 4-0 with 10:30 left. DJ BARANIUK collected a goal with Brennan notching his third as MSU led 6-0.

McCreery scored with 3:24 to play before the Ravens got on the board with 1:47 left as Mason Dennis found the back of the net. Montclair answered with two goals in the final minute, the first by JON LANZALOTTO and the second by AIDAN MAXWELL just ahead of the quarter horn.

Leading 9-1, the Red Hawks did all of the scoring in the second and third periods. MATT DANCSECS and Covino each found the back of the next twice during a six-goal run in the second quarter. CHRIS MARRA and JOHN MORAN had a goal apiece sending MSU into halftime with a 15-1 lead.

Boyle, Moran, Maxwell and Covino each registered a goal in the third as Montclair led 19-1.

Boyle, Dancsecs, CAL MACKENZIE and Maxwell all totaled two goals and an assist for Montclair, which saw 14 different players register a point. DARIO SIRNI and ANDREA FIORENZA were a combined 10-of-14 on faceoffs with MATTHEW MCLAREN and Tom Pollack finishing with eight and seven saves, respectively.  

The Red Hawks return to action on Wednesday, April 28 with their final CSAC contest. MSU heads to Union to face Kean University at 7:00 pm looking to avenge a 9-7 non-conference, season-opening loss to the Cougars on March 12.
