Mahlstadt Leads Women's Lax Past Kean, 14-5

Red Hawks Win Third Straight

Union, NJ - Senior MEGAN MAHLSTADT scored four goals and assisted on three others as No. 23 Montclair State posted its third straight victory knocking off Kean University, 14-5 at Alumni Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

BRITTANY COSTIGAN had three goals for the Red Hawks (3-0), who won the non-conference battle between the teams. The two are set to meet again in their NJAC matchup on Tuesday, April 13 as the scene shifts to Sprague Field in Montclair. Goalkeeper ALLYN LILIEN, the IWLCA Division III and NJAC Defensive Player of the Week, stopped 11 shots with Costigan collecting nine draws as she moved within three of the MSU career record of 321 held by Kailee Beal.

AMBER GONZALEZ and Mahlstadt put the Red Hawks up 2-0 in the first seven minutes before Kean's Dana Meehan scored twice, the latter with 11:09 left, tying the game at 2-2. MSU would put together and eight goal run bridging the two halves to pull away.

TRISTIN KONEN connected with 8:26 to play and HALEY DORAN followed three minutes later for a 4-2 lead. KAITLYN ARCEDE set up CLARE ECKELS with under two minutes to play with Gonzalez scoring with 21 seconds left sending the Red Hawks into the break with a 6-2 lead.

Mahlstadt opened the second half with an unassisted tally and set up Arcede 80 seconds later making the score 8-2. Konen scored again 16 seconds later with Mahlstadt completing the run with 25:54 to play putting the Red Hawks in front 10-2.

Konen and CLAUDIA FRYE each forced a pair of turnovers with those two along with Eckels, Lilien, MORGAN CONNON and KATHERINE YARUSSO each registering two ground balls

The Red Hawks are back in action on Friday, April 9 traveling to Camden, NJ for a 4:00 pm NJAC game with Rutgers-Camden.
