Field Hockey: Gameday Preview vs. FDU-Florham

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State field hockey team hosts in-state rival FDU-Florham Wednesday evening.

LAST TIME OUT
The Red Hawks blanked Gwynedd Mercy 5-0 Saturday afternoon. After a scoreless first half, Montclair State poured five goals on in the second half, including three tallies by rookie GAB MAISTO. Maisto also added an assist on LINSEY CHAMPA's goal with four seconds remaining. LAUREN PICKUL made two saves to earn the victory.

AWARD SEASON
After scoring the hat-trick against Gwynedd Mercy, Maisto was tabbed as the NJAC Rookie of the Week. The Fairfield, NJ native also added a pair of assists in the two games. She became the first Red Hawk to tally seven points in a game since Kaitlyn Struss in 2015.

SCOUTING FDU-FlORHAM
FDU has won five straight games after dropping their first game of the season 4-1 to No. 2 Franklin and Marshall. They notched a pair of shutouts during the stretch and topped Ramapo 3-2 in double-overtime on September 8. Three of the four coaches have ties to Montclair, as Head Coach Maura Johnston was named to NFHCA All-Star Game and First Team All-NJAC as a student-athlete at Montclair. Johnston also was a member of the team that went to the NCAA Championship Game. Assistant Coach Meghan Mollahan was a CoSIDA Academic All-American as a student-athlete at MSU, while Christina Fabiano worked as an Assistant Sports Information Director for two years.

LAST MEETING
FDU earned their first victory over Montclair State since October 12, 1999, when they topped MSU 2-1 on September 25, 2019. Kellie Vizzuso leveled the game at one off an assist from ELIZABETH CIMILLUCA, but Marissa Colvin scored the game-winning tally in the 42nd minute.

SERIES HISTORY
Montclair holds a 16-12-1 advantage against FDU-Florham, dating back to the first matchup in 1985. FDU won 11 of the first 13 meetings before Montclair won 13 straight from 2000 until 2019.
