Gettysburg, PA – The Montclair State volleyball team dropped its first two matches of the season as the Red Hawks fell to Gallaudet and Dickinson in the Gettysburg Battlefield Classic on Friday evening.
The Red Hawks dropped a tough five-set match with Gallaudet before falling to Dickinson, 3-0.
Against Gallaudet, Montclair jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the match as it finished off a 25-22 victory with the final two points. Neither side was able to gain a hold on the set erasing multi-point deficits. Leading 23-22,

MSU would break open the second set with a seven-point burst. Trailing 3-2,
KATELYN MONAGHAN began the rally with an ace and Waterman collected three straight kills with another Monaghan ace giving the Red Hawks a 10-3 advantage. Montclair, which hit .345 in the second set, extended the lead to 17-9 and led 21-14 when it reeled off the final four points to take a 2-0 advantage. Waterman and
GIANNA ARIAS combined on a block with Waterman nailing down the final point with her 12
th kill of the match.
The Bison (1-0) battled back taking the next two sets to set up the decisive fifth. In that set, MSU trailed 12-11, but a kill by
NADYA ACKERMANIAN and an error by Gallaudet vaulted Montclair into the lead. He teams traded points leaving Montclair one point away. The Bison kept the match alive with a block and took advantage of a Red Hawk error to back on top, 15-14. Following a Montclair State timeout, Karita Lewis completed the comeback for Gallaudet with an ace.
Ackermanian finished with seven kills with St. Pierre picking up 38 assists, two aces and six digs. Polanco totaled 11 kills and 16 digs.
The Red Hawks conclude their appearance in the Classic on Saturday, September 4 with two matches. MSU meets Penn State Berks at 10:00 am followed by a Noon contest with Messiah College.
