Women's Basketball: Game Day Preview vs. Kean

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State women's basketball team hosts Kean University in New Jersey Athletic Conference action Wednesday evening.

LAST TIME OUT
On Saturday afternoon, the Red Hawks (7-7, 5-4 NJAC) topped NJCU 88-64. Leading 38-37 at the break, Montclair State outscored the host Gothic Knights 50-27 over the final 20 minutes. MSU forced 20 Gothic Knight turnovers and shot 21-of-37 from the floor in the second half. NICKIE CARTER led the Red Hawks with 28 points while adding seven boards and six assists, as TRISHA PETERSON poured in 16 points and nine rebounds.

SCOUTING THE COUGARS
The Cougars are 9-5, including an 8-1 mark in the NJAC. After dropping four of their first five games to open the year, Kean has reeled off five straight wins. Their lone loss in the conference was a 53-45 setback at the hands of Rowan on December 4.

LAST MEETING
Kean picked up a 69-61 victory earlier this season on November 23. The Red Hawks outscored Kean 29-13 in the third quarter to take a nine-point lead, but Kean opened the fourth with a 12-2 spurt and held on for the win. MEGAN DUFFY led the Red Hawks with 22 points, while TRISHA PETERSON grabbed 17 rebounds in the setback.

SERIES HISTORY
The Red Hawks are 56-35 all-time against the Cougars and had won the last four before dropping the previous matchup this season. From January 13, 1993-January 30, 1999, Montclair had picked up wins in 14 consecutive matchups. Kean's biggest winning streak came in the '80s, winning 10 straight from 1985-1989.
