Senior Day Sweep for Swimming & Diving

Red Hawks Top Ramapo Twice

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State men's and women's swimming and diving teams put up near identical winning scores as the Red Hawks swept their final home dual meet against Ramapo on Saturday at the Panzer Pool.

The women (6-2-1, 2-1-1 NJAC) won their fourth straight meet as they downed the Roadrunners 158-94 on Senior Day. The men (6-2, 1-2 NJAC) are winners of three straight after their 158-98 victory.

Senior TAYLOR WADDLETON and JULIE TIEDEMANN went 1-2 respectively in both long-distance events. Waddleton won the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:12.70 with Tiedemann coming in at 11:14.02. The two were even closer in the 500 freestyle with Waddleton (5:29.52) prevailing again as she out-touched Tiedemann (5:29.99) by .47 seconds. RYAN KAPPES duplicated Waddleton's effort as he won both events swimming 10:18.84 in the 1000 free and 4:58.27 in the 500 freestyle.

Senior EMILY ROTHAMEL led a 1-2-3 finish by the Red Hawks in the 100 backstroke as she posted a time of 1:01.71. ERIN BARRETT was next (1:03.04) followed by MOLLY MOORE (1:07.68). LIDIA BOGUSLAWSKA (55.94) finished first in the 100 freestyle with SOPHIA SHOPOVICK and SOPHIA CIARAVINO coming in second and third.

MSU would take the top two spots in four other events. Boguslawska and Ciaravino were the first in the 200 free with times of 2:02.62 and 2:07.59, respectively. BRANDON DO claimed the 200 breaststroke (2:14.42) with SPENSER DUBOIS placing second (2:15.22). Rothamel (2:13.98) and Barrett (2:20.06) earned the third in the 200 backstroke with Dan DeLargy (2:00.48) and Chrystian Muhlheisen (2:09.99).

Julie Skopp-Cardillo was a winner in the 50 freestyle (26.17) and TYLER DORSETT (2:01.74) claimed the top spot in the 200 butterfly. Dubois (200 free – 1:49.83) and DeLargy (100 backstroke – 58.84) each had individual wins.

LUCAS GOMES won three events as he claimed the 100 butterfly (52.31), 50 freestyle (21.61) and, 100 freestyle (47.72). Gomes also swam on the winning 200 medley relay team as he combined with DeLargy, Dubois and Dorsett for a time of 1:37.98. Rothamel, ABBY BROCK, Juliet DiPasquale and Boguslawska posted a time of 1:53.37 for victory on the women's side.
 
Montclair State will have one more dual meet before the Metropolitan Championships take place in latter February. MSU heads to Wayne, NJ for a showdown with local rival William Paterson on February 5.
