Franco Tallies First Collegiate Goal As No. 13/13 Men's Soccer Tops Rutgers-Newark 2-0

Montclair, NJ – The No. 13/13 Montclair State men's soccer team notched its second consecutive clean sheet with a 2-0 win over Rutgers-Newark Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two teams combined for one shot on frame midway through the first half, as JANBI KAGHADO's 10th-minute try was stopped. The Red Hawks (10-1-3, 5-0-0 NJAC) broke through in the 29th minute. JOSIAH CRAWFORD flew down the left wing and ripped a shot that goalkeeper Christian Andrach denied. The rebound was sent right to the foot of ADAN FRANCO, who tapped the rebound into the vacated net.
  • SHANE KEENAN was tested 90 seconds later, making a denial on Jonah Dias. The Red Hawks nearly doubled the lead in the 38th minute, but ENIR RADONCIC's shot glanced off the left post. Keenan preserved the one-goal lead in the 44th minute, stopping Jake Milne and MSU went into the half with a 1-0 advantage.
  • The goalkeeper kept the one-goal edge with stops on Joe Alba in the 51st minute and Gerson Gonzalez-Quevedo nearly a minute later.
  • Both teams hunted for the next goal, and it was the Red Hawks who were able to double the advantage in the 87th minute. Crawford used a strong individual effort to maneuver through the defense before hitting a low-driven shot into the low left corner of the frame, extending the lead to 2-0.

  • Crawford fired six shots in the win, picking up a goal and an assist for his straight multi-point outing.
