Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 13/13 Men's Soccer Tops TCNJ 7-3

Montclair, NJ – JOSIAH CRAWFORD and ANTHONY VIOLA recorded two-goal nights to send the No. 13/13 Montclair State men's soccer past TCNJ 7-3 Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (11-1-3, 6-0 NJAC) needed just 2:46 to open the scoring. OWEN MURPHY one-touched a pass to Crawford, who went streaking down the left sideline. Crawford dribbled into the box and sent a low shot to the opposite corner of the goal, making it 1-0 Montclair.
  • After a foul in the box on TCNJ, AMER LUKOVIC stepped up to take the penalty kick. The sophomore went down the middle, and the keeper went right for his fifth goal of the season. Both goalkeepers made saves before Justin Dominique cut the deficit in half. Sebastian Hernandez sent a cross into the box that Dominique flicked on with his head. The header glanced off the Montclair State goalkeeper and went in, making it 2-1 in the 22nd minute.
  • The Red Hawks answered 23 seconds later, with Lukovic making a nifty pass to Viola. Viola ripped a try from just outside the 18-yard box and into the upper right corner of the goal for his fourth of the season.
  • The back-and-forth first half continued as the Lions again dug into the lead. Julien Carraha delivered a right-footed cross where Luke Pascarella headed one past BORIS DEL VALLE to cut the lead in half. Del Valle prevented Pascarella from doing further damage, making a save in the 37th minute to send the game into the half 3-2.
  • 3:22 into the second half, Viola netted his second goal of the game. Murphy sent a free-kick into the box where defender ENIR RADONCIC stuck his leg out and deflected Viola. Viola shot from a sharp angle and underneath a diving goalkeeper, extending the lead to 4-2.
  • The Lions had their head coach sent off for dissent in the 51st minute before Montclair State added their fifth goal. Crawford stole the ball from a defender just outside the 18. The senior took a turn and rifled a blast that tucked inside the left post for the goal.
  • TCNJ saw Pascarella receive a red card in the 60th minute and the Red Hawks added another goal in the 64th minute. ALEX ZIELONKA took a pass from the far-right side and crossed it in. The pass took a deflection into the goal, past the goalkeeper. The team capped off the scoring in the 74th minute, with JOHN BECKER putting a pass on the foot of JACOB BARTNIK. Bartnik fired from 25-yards out and went far post, making it 7-2.
  • The Lions got a goal from Daniel Grund with 53 seconds to go, but that was as close as they could get.
