Cahill Bags Second Hat Trick Of Season in 3-0 Win Over Rutgers-Newark

Montclair, NJ – Junior AILEEN CAHILL recorded her second hat-trick in three games as the No. 13/18 Montclair State women's soccer team picked up a 3-0 victory over Rutgers-Newark Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Montclair State (12-1-0, 4-1-0 NJAC) needed 9:15 to open the scoring. TARA LAMBERT made a pass to Cahill, who beat the goalkeeper high for her team-leading 11th marker of the season.
  • The Red Hawks continued to pepper the Scarlet Raiders with shots and were awarded a penalty kick in the 16th minute thanks to a handball in the box. Cahill stepped up to the spot to take the kick. The goalkeeper got a finger on it but couldn't entirely stop the try, and MSU doubled their lead.
  • Montclair limited Rutgers-Newark to just one shot in the opening period, holding an 11-1 edge.
  • MSU capped off the scoring in the 49th minute. After a short throw-in, KYLIE PRENDERGAST served in a ball from the left side into the box, where Cahill headed a shot into the far corner to complete the hat-trick.
  • The Scarlet Raiders pressed for a goal but were denied by HALEY MARTIN in the 51st and 60th minutes before the senior goalkeeper made a final save on Camila Howard in the 67th minute.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Cahill became the first Red Hawk to record two hat tricks in a season since Jessica Kiniery in 2013.
  • KIMBERLY CAMPBELL added three shots, while EMMI DENOVELLIS, SAMANTHA GABRIELE, and KERRI DRISCOLL tallied two each.
  • Martin made three saves in the clean-sheet, while Katie McLaughlin denied 12 Red Hawk chances in the setback.
