Mahwah, NJ – The Montclair State swimming and diving teams picked up wins over Ramapo Saturday, as Head Coach Brian McLaughlin reached a milestone.
The men's team won 168-89 as the women's side picked up 166-88 triumph. With the victory on the women's side, McLaughlin notched his 200
th career victory as women's head coach.
WOMEN'S RECAP
- The Red Hawks opened the day with the top-two times in the 200-medley relay. SOPHIA SHOPOVICK, ABBY BROCK, CATTY GEYER, and ROURKE PERALTA were first in 1:54.51, with ERIN BARRETT, LILI SHAY, JULIET DI PASQUALE, and JULIANA SKOPP-CARDILLO clocking in at 1:59.38
- Geyer led a trio of Red Hawks in the 200-free, touching the wall in 2:05.36. Skopp-Cardillo was second in 2:09.97 as AVA MAFFUCCI was third in 2:13.09. Shopovick won her first individual event in the 100-back, clocking in at 1:02.54 with Barrett behind her in 1:03.97.
- Brock placed first in the 100-breaststroke, finitizing in 1:11.58 before Shay and SYDNEY MCGANN were behind her in 1:13.69 and 1:14.32, respectively. Peralta notched her first collegiate individual victory in the 50-free with a time of 25.07 before claiming the 100-free in 57.1.
- Shopovick and Brock made it two wins apiece, with Shopovick taking the 200-back (2:18.09) and Brock winning the 200-breaststroke (2:39.47). JULIE TIEDEMANN and MOLLY GRAY capped the victories for Montclair State, as Tiedemann registered a mark of 5:31.32 in the 500-free before Gray edged Di Pasquale in the 100-fly (1:04.73).
MEN'S RECAP
- Montclair State started strong, notching a triumph in the opening 200-medley relay. DENNIS DELARGY, SPENSER DUBOIS, LUCAS MIGLIN, and LUCAS GOMES turned in a time of 1:40.8. RYAN KAPPES and SEAN NUGENT went 1-2 in both distance events, as Kappes registered first-place marks of 10:22.95 in the 1,000 and 5:05.43 in the 500.
- Rookies Miglin and ANTHONY FERRARO took the top-two spots in the 200, as Miglin clocked in at 1:51.22. Gomes picked up a win in the 100-back (54.15) with DeLargy right behind him in 56.34. Dubois, who notched an NCAA "B" cut time in the 100-breast last year, won the event in 59.59 as he edged Emili Eeckhout of Ramapo by .07 seconds.
- TYLER DORSETT led a trio of Red Hawks in the 200-butterfly with a time of 2:01.38, as JOHN ENGLERT and JOHN MORRIS were behind him. Gomes made it two victories with a mark of 22.09 in the 50-free before DeLargy tallied his first individual triumph in the 200-backstroke (2:06.06).
- Dubois edged Eeckhout in the 200-breaststroke as he touched the wall in 2:14.2. Gomes capped off the afternoon by winning the 100-fly in 54.06, clipping Englert who finished in 55.61.
