Swimming & Diving: Meet Day Preview vs. Ramapo

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State swimming and diving teams open their season against Ramapo Saturday afternoon.

The meet will begin at 2 pm in Mahwah, NJ, at the Adele & Reuben Thomas Pool on Ramapo's campus.
 
MEN'S 2021-22 SEASON IN REVIEW
The Red Hawks went 7-2 during the season, notching their most victories in a season since picking up seven during the 2017-18 season. Dubois set school records in the 100-breaststroke and the 200-breaststroke at the Metropolitan Championships and became the first men's swimmer since Steven Roth in 2017 to notch an NCAA qualifying time. Montclair State finished the season with a fifth-place finish at the Metropolitan Championships, tallying 596 points over the four-day event.
 
WOMEN'S 2021-22 SEASON IN REVIEW
The Red Hawks went undefeated in meets after October 22, going 7-0-1 during the final stretch. For the second time in Head Coach Brian McLaughlin's tenure at Montclair State, the Red Hawks tied a meet in their 150-150 draw with Rowan on November 6. The team also placed seventh at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational and recorded New Jersey Athletic Conference victories over Kean, Ramapo, and William Paterson. Montclair State placed fifth at the Metropolitan Championships, gaining 881 team points.
 
SCOUTING RAMAPO
The Ramapo women's team went 2-6 last year and placed eighth at the Metropolitan Championships. On the men's side, the Roadrunners went 4-3 and closed the season with three straight victories. They took sixth place at METS last season.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Montclair State is 15-6 on the men's side and 13-2 on the women's side. The women's team hasn't lost since 2016, when they were edged 134.5-127.5, while the men's team has won two straight.
 
LAST MEETING
The men's side won 158-98 last year, as RYAN KAPPES notched wins in the 500 and 1,000-freestyle events, with LUCAS GOMES claiming victories in the 100-fly, 50-free, and 100-free. The women's team won 158-94 as TAYLOR WADDLETON won both long-distance events before EMILY ROTHAMEL won the 100-backstroke. JULIANA SKOPP-CARDILLO also took first in an event, winning the 50-freestyle.

The Red Hawks host Drew University inside the Panzer Pool at noon Saturday.
