Volleyball Takes Down Trinity (Conn.) In Four Sets

Hartford, Conn. – The Montclair State volleyball team picked up a four-set victory over Trinity College (Conn). on Thursday night.
 
The Red Hawks (13-11) served 20 aces as Trinity (7-11) only recorded six in the 25-17, 25-20, 23-25, and 25-15 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • With the opening frame tied at seven, Trinity tallied the following four points to take a slight lead. Montclair State used an 8-1 spurt with EMMA HATCHER and DELANEY ST. PIERRE serving to grab a 16-13 advantage. DELANEY ST. PIERRE tallied a pair of service aces during the run.
  • The Bantams closed to within four, but NADYA ACKERMANIAN and CARLY WATERMAN slammed kills to extend the gap to six. An attack error by the hosts handed the opening set to Montclair State.
  • Trinity registered the first three points before MSU reeled off the next seven, including four aces from Waterman. The Bantams fought back and leveled the stanza at 15 on a kill from Eva Lekovic.
  • The period saw ties at 16, 17, 18, and 19 before Montclair pushed across four consecutive points. GIANNA ARIAS and LEAH HIGGINS recorded kills, with Hatcher serving an ace during the run. Montclair pushed Trinity to the brink thanks to consecutive unforced errors.
  • Trinity went on an 8-3 rally in the third set before Montclair strung together a 10-2 spurt to open up a six-point advantage. The Bantams pulled even at 20 and claimed the set with four of the final five markers.
  • The Red Hawks raced out to an 8-3 advantage in the fourth period, with Rodman delivering three aces. Trinity would get as close as five midway through, but Montclair State used several multi-point runs to take control. Higgins punctuated the match with a kill off a set from St. Pierre.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Higgins notched a team-best 15 kills while adding 12 digs, with St. Pierre and Waterman combining for 25 digs.
  • Waterman took third place on the program's all-time kills list with 1,094 in her career.
  • St. Pierre, Waterman, and Rodman all tallied five aces as Hatcher picked up 22 digs.
