No. 12/13 Women Soccer Notches 3-0 Victory Over Rutgers-Camden

Camden, NJ – The No. 12/13 Montclair State women's soccer notched a 3-0 clean sheet over Rutgers-Camden Saturday.
 
With the victory, Montclair (15-1, 7-1 NJAC) remains in the hunt for a top-two seed in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Neither side recorded a shot over the first 23 minutes before SAMANTHA GABRIELE's 24th-minute try was stopped by Kayla McKeever. The Red Hawks broke through 1:41 later, as the Scarlet Raptors were whistled for a foul in the box. AILEEN CAHILL stepped up and converted the penalty kick, making it 1-0 Montclair State.
  • The Red Hawks turned the pressure up in the second half, outshooting Rutgers-Camden (4-7-4, 3-2-3 NJAC) 9-1.
  • Montclair State doubled the lead in the 56th minute. KYLIE PRENDERGAST took the ball and fired a shot from the left side of the box. The ball tucked into the right post after cutting the goal mouth, helping Montclair State make it 2-0.
  • The rookie wasn't done, as she added a second of the game 54 seconds later. McKeever saved Gabriele's initial attempt, but the rebound fell to Prendergast, who quickly buried the try, making it 3-0.
  • Rutgers-Camden did not put a shot goal the rest of the way as the defensive unit clamped down.

  • Gabriele led the Red Hawks with three shots, as Prendergast and KYLINN KRAEMER recorded two.
  • McKeever tallied five saves in goal for Camden, as HALEY MARTIN did not make a save.
  • Prendergast has now registered five goals over her last two games.
UP NEXT
The Red Hawks close out the regular season on Wednesday as they host Kean at 7 pm. With a victory, the Red Hawks will clinch a first-round bye in the NJAC Tournament.
