No. 12 /13 Women's Soccer Clinches NJAC Regular Season Title

Montclair, NJ - The No. 12/13 Montclair State women's soccer team clinched the New Jersey Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship with a 3-1 win over Kean Wednesday evening.

The Red Hawks (16-1, 8-1 NJAC) claimed their third NJAC Regular Season Championship with the win and their first since 2013. It's also the fourth time in program history the team has eclipsed 16 wins in a season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks put a pair of shots on frame early but finally broke through in the 16th minute. KYLIE PRENDERGAST received a pass in the attacking third and moved into the box before slipping a low pass to AILEEN CAHILL. Cahill took the shot, glanced off the goalkeeper, and went in.
  • Cahill was denied in the 20th minute before Kean goalkeeper Julia Masucci stopped ASHLEY DEFRANCESCO off a free-kick try. The Red Hawks' defense was stingy in the first half, not allowing a shot on goal over the first 45 minutes.
  • Montclair doubled their advantage early in the second half. Cahill intercepted a goal-kick and deflected a second touch onto LAUREN ERNST. Ernst took one dribble and beat a sprawling Masucci to double the lead.
  • Nearly two minutes later, the Red Hawks finished off the scoring in the 57th minute. Ernst went on a long run into the box and delivered a low-cross across the 18 to KYLIE PRENDERGAST. The rookie fended off a defender and tapped the ball to give MSU a 3-0 lead.
  • The Cougars got into the lead in the 59th minute, with Delaney McGlade scoring off a pass from Kayley Brooks. Red Hawks goalkeeper HALEY MARTIN kept the Cougars at bay, making two saves the rest of the way. Montclair kept Kean off the board, setting off a raucous celebration at the final whistle.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Montclair State outshot Kean 21-8 and 11-3 on goal during the game.
  • Cahill and EMMI DENOVELLIS lead the way with four shots, as Ernst, KIMBERLY CAMPBELL, and Prendergast added three.
