Volleyball Falls to No. 6 NYU In Hard-Fought Match

Brooklyn, NY – The Montclair State dropped a four-set match to No. 6 NYU Tuesday evening.
 
The Red Hawks (15-12) fell 25-20, 25-12, 16-25, and 25-21 to NYU (22-4).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two sides traded multi-point runs in the opening frame before a 4-0 run by NYU pushed them in front 12-8.
  • Montclair State closed to within two at 15-13, but NYU tallied the following six points to extend the lead to eight. The Red Hawks reeled off six of the following eight points to get within three, but NYU polished the frame with three of the final four markers.
  • The Violets opened the second period with 11 of the first 15 points and ultimately took the frame after MSU could not get closer than eight.
  • SKYE RAMSEY pinned down a kill to extend Montclair State's lead to 9-5 in set three, but NYU tallied the next two markers. With MIA CAPRIGLIONE at the service line, Montclair State went on a 7-1 rally to push the gap to eight.
  • LEAH HIGGINS slammed down a kill to stretch the lead to double-digits, and NYU would not get closer than seven the rest of the set. DELANEY ST. PIERRE served an ace to bring up set point before Capriglione registered the final point with a kill.
  • NYU raced out to an 11-5 advantage in the fourth stanza before Higgins served up three straight points, including an ace, to get within a pair.
  • The Red Hawks continued to fight, clawing to within four on a double block from Capriglione and NADYA ACKERMANIAN. GIANNA ARIAS and CARLY WATERMAN recorded kills late in the match, but NYU took the victory on a kill from Gabriella Spaethling.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Higgins led the Red Hawks with 11 kills as Ackermanian tallied eight.
  • Waterman picked up a team-high 15 digs as St. Pierre added 31 assists, nine digs, and six kills.
