Volleyball Takes Down Vassar On Senior Night

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State volleyball team topped Vassar College 3-0 in their regular season finale Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the opening period, Montclair used an 8-3 run to open up a three-point lead as MIA CAPRIGLIONE, and DELANEY ST. PIERRE teamed up for a block to finish the rally. The Brewers battled back, and four consecutive tallies from Hailey Hayes pushed the guests up 13-11.
  • Montclair State embarked on an 11-2 spurt, with CARLY WATERMAN and KATIE RODMAN serving to extend their advantage to seven.
  • Senior GIANNA ARIAS and Capriglione pinned down sets from St. Pierre to give Montclair the set one win.
  • The Red Hawks tallied the first seven points with St. Pierre serving, as Waterman notched four kills. The Brewers fought back from their large deficit, getting within three on a Rebecca Gutierrez kill.
  • To claim the set, Montclair State reeled off 11 of the final 13 points, including the last six. Rodman delivered two aces during the set-clinching spurt as Arias and St. Pierre teamed up for a tandem rejection on set point.
  • MSU notched 11 of the first 16 markers in the final set and used a 5-0 run to extend the lead to double-digits. Vassar could get as close as nine the rest of the way, and the senior Arias closed out her home career with a thunderous kill.

  • Montclair State hit .363 (48-11-102) and committed just four attack errors over the final two frames.
  • Higgins tallied 13 kills, while Waterman posted a double-double of 10 kills and 14 digs.
  • St. Pierre filled the stat sheet with 34 assists, eight kills, six digs, and three blocks in the win,
