Westervelt Scores Twice as Field Hockey Blanks FDU-Florham 4-0

Madison, NJ – LINSEY CHAMPA and KELLY WESTERVELT scored second-quarter goals in 26 seconds to lead the Montclair State field hockey team to a 4-0 win over FDU-Florham Wednesday.

Montclair State (10-7) outshot FDU (9-8) 11-4 during the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two teams combined for three shots in the opening quarter, with LAUREN PICKUL making one save for Montclair State (10-7). LINDSEY BICHER was denied by Emily Practhauser off a corner in the third minute before TORI SUTERA was stopped in the seventh.
  • Montclair capitalized on their only two shots of the second period late in the frame. Sutera linked up with Champa for the opening marker with 3:10 left in the period. The Red Hawks moved down the field off the restart, and Bicher found Westervelt in front to double the advantage.
  • After a scoreless third quarter, Montclair State tallied a pair of goals in the fourth. Westervelt, who had an attempt stopped 32 seconds into the period, notched an unassisted marker at the 2:09 mark.
  • Fifty seconds later, CARLIE VAN TASSEL converted a pass from Sutera to cap off the scoring.
