Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State field hockey team had their six-game winning streak snapped by No. 6 Kean in a 3-2 New Jersey Athletic Conference matchup Tuesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Montclair (6-5, 1-1 NJAC) notched the game's first two shots before capitalizing on their third shot. GAB MAISTO inserted a penalty corner and made her way to the front of the net. LINDSEY BICHER rifled a blast, and Maisto deflected it to give MSU a 1-0 lead.
  • The Red Hawks doubled their lead 1:57 into the second period. Maisto deposited her second goal of the game, doubling the Red Hawk advantage.
  • The Cougars (10-1, 1-0 NJAC) controlled the rest of the half, taking three penalty corners late in the second stanza but were unable to capitalize. Goalkeeper LAUREN PICKUL made a stop on Ja'Carra Jackson with 1:56 to go in the period to send MSU into halftime up 2-0.
  • Off a penalty corner, 1:33 into the third, Jackson tapped in a shot from Laura Stump to trim the deficit to one. Pickul made another denial on Maddison Gonzales in the 24th minute, but Peyton Mann leveled the game at two with an unassisted marker in the 37th minute.
  • Montclair nearly snapped the 2-2 deadlock in the 39th minute, but Mann notched a defensive save on a shot from KELLY WESTERVELT.
  • The Cougars grabbed their first of the game 1:18 into the fourth, with Gonzales netting a goal from Morgan Stump. The Red Hawks threatened again, but Krista O'Grady registered a defensive save in the 48th minute, rejecting LINSEY CHAMPA.
