Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Cahill, Prendergast Set Program Milestone in 8-0 Win Over John Jay

Montclair, NJ – AILEEN CAHILL and KYLIE PRENDERGAST set a new program record as the No. 10/12 Montclair State women's soccer team blanked John Jay 8-0 Wednesday.

Cahill and Prendergast became the first duo in program history to score three goals in the same game for Montclair (11-0), as they outshot John Jay (4-2-2) 26-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After their first two attempts did not result in a goal, the Red Hawks broke through in the 14th minute. NICOLE RICCI slipped a pass from the middle of the field to LAUREN ERNST, who sent a cross to Cahill in the box. Cahill, who took a touch, beat the goalkeeper for her first goal on the day.
  • The Red Hawks continued to hunt for more goals and were rewarded in the 25th minute. EMILY SCHULER played a pass into Prendergast, and the freshman rifled a shot from 20-yards out. The chance tucked neatly under the crossbar doubled the Red Hawks' advantage.
  • The Montclair defense did not allow a shot in the first half, as the team held a commanding 14-0 advantage in shots.
  • Montclair erupted for four goals in the first 5:16 of the second period. KYLINN KRAEMER received a pass in the attacking third and passed to Cahill. The junior dribbled into the 18 and fired a high shot out of the goalkeeper's reach for her second marker of the game.
  • For the fourth goal, Prendergast chested down a long ball before deflecting it onto Cahill, who ripped the attempt into the top portion of the goal to complete her hat trick. Prendergast added her second of the contest 43 seconds later as she headed in a perfect service from EMMI DENOVELLIS.
  • 48 seconds later, Prendergast completed the hat-trick, with JULIE BAKER striking a pass to her classmate. The rookie was inside the 6-yard box when she received the ball and scored from a sharp angle, making it 6-0 MSU.
  • The Bloodhounds pushed three shots on target during the game's later stages, but goalkeeper JULIA DELLISANTI made stops on all of them.
  • After John Jay was whistled for a foul, defender MACKENZIE CANGRO stepped up for the free kick. She placed a perfect ball into the box, where sophomore NIKI DANZ headed it home for her first goal of the year. The Red Hawks capped off the scoring in the 87th minute, as SAMANTHA ONDRUSH scored a long-range goal that glanced off the goalkeeper's hands.
