Volleyball Rallies To Top Arcadia In Four Sets

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State volleyball team rallied to claim the final three sets as they topped Arcadia 3-1 Thursday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Knights (14-4) stormed out of the gates, taking an 11-6 lead in the first period. Montclair battled back with four straight markers, leveling the frame at 12. After a KATIE RODMAN service ace trimmed the gap to 16-15, Arcadia embarked on a 7-1 run to take control.
  • Montclair (9-8) closed to within five after an unforced service error, but a Red Hawk attack error handed set one to the visiting Knights.
  • GIANNA ARIAS started 8-0 run with a kill in set two, as Rodman chipped in consecutive service aces to pad the lead. MIA CAPRIGLIONE and SKYE RAMSEY teamed up for a block to extend the lead to double-digits, and a big kill from NADYA ACKERMANIAN slammed home a kill to make it 20-9.
  • After a side out from the Knights, Montclair reeled off five of the final six points to claim set two. Capriglione finished the frame off with a kill off a nice set from DELANEY ST. PIERRE.
  • LEAH HIGGINS tallied six straight points, including a back-row kill and an ace to push the gap to double figures. Arcadia didn't go away, cutting the deficit to seven after an 8-2 rally. After an unforced error brought up set point, Arcadia fended off four points to get within six. EMILY CARCICH set up Arias for a kill in the middle, extending the Red Hawk lead to 2-1 in the game.
  • Much like the opening frame, Arcadia took an 11-6 lead early in the fourth period. Montclair stayed in the game, pulling even at 19 on an attack error. The Knights notched the following two points before Montclair countered with three of their own to jump in front 22-21. The go-ahead marker was courtesy of a double block from Capriglione and Ackermanaian.
  • After exchanging points, LEAH HIGGINS pounded down a kill to bring up match point. The Knights got a kill from Michelle Frank to pull even at 24, but a service error forced another match point. Capriglione stepped up to the service line and delivered her second service ace of the match, clinching the win.
