Volleyball Falls In Straight Sets To No. 9 Wisconsin-Whitewater

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State volleyball fell in straight sets to No. 9 Wisconsin-Whitewater Sunday afternoon.

The Red Hawks (9-9) fell 25-13, 25-21, and 25-9 to the Warhawks (20-3).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Warhawks jumped out to a 9-1 advantage in the first frame, and the guests extended their lead to 15-4 after two consecutive attack errors. Montclair State tallied three straight markers to trim the gap to single digits after a LEAH HIGGINS service ace but could not get any closer.
  • A service ace from the Warhawks made it 23-10, but MSU notched the next three tallies, including kills from NADYA ACKERMANIAN and Higgins. A service ace from Jenna Weinfurt ended the first set in favor of UWW.
  • The second stanza went back and forth early, with neither side able to take a firm grasp. The War Hawks used a 5-0 run to jump in front 13-10, but the Red Hawks countered later with a 4-1 rally of their own to take an 18-16 lead.
  • Wisconsin Whitewater broke the game open with a 9-3 run to finish off the frame and go up 2-0 in the match. The Red Hawks fended off one set point thanks to a tandem block from DELANEY ST. PIERRE and Elizabeth Kileen; Weinfurt slammed down a kill to polish it off.
  • Montclair State tallied four of the first six markers in the third set before the visitors took the lead for good with a 7-1 run. After an unforced hitting error trimmed the score to 11-7, UWW finished the match with a 14-2 run to cement the win.
