Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Carter Records 1,000th Career Point In Setback To Ithaca

Montclair, NJ – NICKIE CARTER became the 22nd women's basketball student-athlete to record 1,000 career points, but the Montclair State women's basketball team fell to Ithaca College 72-48 Friday.

Carter is the first Red Hawk to score 1,000 points since Alex McKinnon did so on February 25, 2020, in the NJAC Semifinals against NJCU.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Carter, who needed 13 points to reach 1,000 entering the game, scored four of the first six Montclair State (1-1) points on the evening. The Bombers (2-0) went on an 11-3 spurt over the final 6:08 of the first quarter to build a six-point edge.
  • Montclair closed to within a pair early in the second period, with OLIVIA VERO tallying consecutive baskets in the paint. MEGAN DUFFY drained a triple with 7:46 to go in the frame, but a 9-0 Bomber spurt extended the lead to double figures.
  • Ithaca rode a 12-point lead into halftime despite shooting 11-of-30 from the floor in the opening half.
  • After TERESA WOLAK opened second-half scoring, the Bombers poured in the following nine markers, capped off by a Cara Volpe layup.
  • Carter hit the 1,000-point plateau midway through the fourth quarter, converting a layup. ALEXIS STROLLO and GENEVIEVE FARA delivered three-pointers at the tail-end of the contest, establishing the final margin.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Carter tallied a team-best 13 points and five assists, as Vero registered five points, seven rebounds, and three blocked shots.
  • Ithaca placed four in double figures, led by 11 from Cara Volpe.
