Second Half Rally Sends Women's Basketball By King's, 58-46

Wilkes-Barre, Pa. – The Montclair State women's basketball team outscored King's 34-20 in the second half en route to a 58-46 victory Wednesday.

NICKIE CARTER had a season-high 25 points for Montclair (2-1), as Cailin Wilson and Kathy Shepherd had 13 for King's (1-3).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A 5-0 Red Hawk run midway through the first period turned a three-point deficit into a two-point lead before the Monarchs added the final basket with seven seconds left in the period to even things at eight entering period two.
  • An 8-0 Montclair State spurt in the second stanza, capped off by a triple from MEGAN DUFFY, gave Montclair their largest lead of the half at 20-12.
  • The Red Hawks would only score two baskets, both from MADELYN MCCREA, over the final 5:35 as King's finished the half on a 14-4 run to take a two-point lead into the half.
  • Montclair State shot 50% from the floor in the second quarter, going 7-of-14 but was outscored by two points.
  • OLIVIA VERO hit a layup on a fast-break 2:04 into the third quarter, which gave Montclair a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the way. Lauren Casey's layup trimmed the deficit to one at 31-30, but a 10-1 Montclair State run pushed the lead to double-digits.
  • The Monarchs got as close as seven in the fourth, but the Red Hawks' defense limited King's to no points over the final 2:29, as they outscored King's 5-0 during the stretch.
