Driscoll's Goal Sends Women's Soccer To NCAA Second Round

Montclair, NJ – KERRI DRISCOLL scored in the 56th minute to send the Montclair State women's soccer team to the NCAA Second Round with a 1-0 win over the University of Lynchburg Saturday.

With today's win, the Red Hawks (17-2-1) have won at least one NCAA Tournament game in all eight tournament appearances.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hornets controlled play early, forcing HALEY MARTIN to make a stop on Mackenzie Joly in the 10th minute. Montclair State didn't register a shot until the 24th minute, as Jade Lecklider stopped JULIE BAKER.
  • Off a scrum in the box, KYLINN KRAEMER and a host of Red Hawks tried to poke a ball in off a corner kick, but Lecklider prevented the try from going in. After being granted a free-kick just outside the 18-yard box, rookie ASHLEY DEFRANCESCO placed the free-kick just over the crossbar.
  • Entering halftime, Montclair held a slim 6-4 advantage in shots.
  • The Red Hawks broke through in the 56th minute. EMMI DENOVELLIS sent a corner kick into the box, and Driscoll headed it past Lecklider for her second marker of the year. The Hornets nearly equalized in the 61st minute, but Martin was there to make a stop.
  • Lynchburg's best chance came with a shade over 16 minutes to go. After intercepting a pass, Emily Santana moved into a one-on-one with Martin. As Martin came out to challenge, Santana fired a shot that went slightly wide of the right post and out for a goal kick.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • AILEEN CAHILL and JULIE BAKER had a team-high two shots, as Joly led Lynchburg with three.
  • Martin denied three Hornet tries as Lecklider had two saves for Lynchburg.
