Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Pryce, Breeman Lead Men's Basketball Past NJCU In NJAC Opener

Jersey City, NJ – KEYON PRYCE had a team-high 14 points as the Montclair State men's basketball team downed NJCU 68-47 in their New Jersey Athletic Conference opener Tuesday.

STEVEN BREEMAN tallied his first double-double of the season for Montclair State (4-0) as he notched 11 points and 14 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • NJCU (3-2, 0-1 NJAC) held a 12-9 advantage before AMARI MILLS drained a three-pointer to even things up. That triple kick-started a 10-2 spurt for the Red Hawks, capped off by a pair of Breeman free throws.
  • The Gothic Knights whittled the lead down to one with 6:14 to go on a Ryan Savoy dunk, but the Red Hawks embarked on a 10-0 rally over the next five minutes. Breeman and Pryce tallied four markers each during the run to push the lead to double figures.
  • Montclair grabbed a nine-point advantage entering halftime despite converting just 3-of-16 from three and shooting 37.5% from the floor.
  • NJCU brought the margin to four on a Jason Battle jumper, but threes on consecutive possessions by Pryce and KYREE HENRY stretched it back to 10. Montclair used a 7-0 spurt, keeping NJCU scoreless for about five minutes, to push the lead back to 15.
  • The Gothic Knights closed to within 14 with 5:54 to go, but the visitors finished the game on an 11-4 run, holding NJCU to one field goal.
