Men's Basketball Knocks Off Rosemont For Fifth Straight Win

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State men's basketball team outscored Rosemont 59-46 in the second half in an 88-74 triumph Wednesday.

The Red Hawks (5-0) were led by a combined 27 points from MIKE JACKSON and AMIR WILLIAMS in the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Ravens (2-5) notched the first four points before STEVEN BREEMAN drained a three-pointer to put the Red Hawks on the board. Montclair used a 12-0 spurt with the game tied at nine to extend the lead to double figures.
  • Rosemont battled back, keeping Montclair without a made basket for over five minutes, and a 17-4 run by the guests pushed them back in front by a point at 26-25. KIERAN FLANAGAN and FRANCISCO PAULINO converted layups late in the period, but two Damian Rawls free throws made it 29-28 Montclair entering halftime.
  • Rosemont shot 42.86% in the first half and limited Montclair to 1-of-15 shooting from behind the arc over the first 20 minutes.
  • Jackson, limited to just two points in the first half, got his first triple to drop 2:18 into the second stanza. DEVIN COOPER knocked a three-pointer on the ensuing trip down the floor, stretching the Red Hawks' advantage to nine at 39-30.
  • An 6-0 Montclair rally brought the lead back to 12, with Williams and Paulino notching all the points during the run. Jackson took over midway through the period, hitting three-point tries on three straight trips down the floor.
  • KEYON PRYCE converted a traditional three-point play to push the gap to a game-high 17, but the pesky Ravens didn't go away. They made it a one-possession game with a 9-0 run before Breeman put back a Flanagan miss to stop the run.
  • Williams tipped his own missed shot with 2:41 left to make the score 78-69 before clutch free throws down the stretch from Pryce and Flanagan sealed the victory.
