Women's Basketball Cruises Past Hunter, 76-44

New York, NY – The Montclair State women's basketball team cruised past Hunter College 76-44 in non-conference action Tuesday.
 
NICKIE CARTER paced the Red Hawks (5-4) with 18 points.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Trailing for the only time in the game at 2-0, Montclair reeled off the following seven points, holding Hunter scoreless for nearly five minutes. The Hawks evened things at seven before the Red Hawks finished the frame on a 9-0 run, with ALEXIS STROLLO tallying consecutive layups.
  • The Red Hawks extended the lead by pouring in the first eight markers of the second quarter, as Carter drained three-pointers on consecutive possessions. Hunter closed to within 12, but Montclair closed the quarter with eight of the final 10 points. SHANNON HUGHES tallied five points during the spurt as Montclair took a 20-point lead into halftime.
  • Montclair shot 50% (15-of-30) from the floor and was 5-of-9 from behind the arc in the second quarter.
  • The Hawks began the third with six of the first eight tallies before OLIVIA VERO converted three straight layups. Late in the period, LYNDSEY ROSS knocked down a triple and recorded a layup before ISABELLA ORLANDO polished off the scoring with a jumper on the paint.
  • Carter once again hit back-to-back three-pointers midway through the fourth stanza, while Orlando also hit a pair. Strollo capped off the game with a triple with four seconds left to establish the final margin.

  • Nine different Red Hawks had four or more points, as 10 student-athletes scored in the game.
  • Vero notched eight points, six rebounds, and five assists, as TERESA WOLAK recorded six points, five assists, and five steals.
  • The Red Hawks' reserves poured in 34 points, led by 11 from Orlando, seven points, and six boards from MADELYN MCCREA.
  • The 13 three-pointers marked a season-high, the most since hitting 14 against Rutgers-Camden on March 5, 2021.

The Red Hawks head west to Las Vegas for the D3hoops.com Classic. The team will first face No. 6 Amherst at 12 PM PST/3 PM EST on December 28.
