Hot Start, Balanced Scoring Leads Men's Basketball Past Centenary

Montclair, NJ – KEYON PRYCE scored a team-high 22 points to lead five student-athletes in double figures as the Montclair State men's basketball team topped Centenary 96-81 Saturday.

The Red Hawks (9-0) received 10 assists and seven boards from KIERAN FLANAGAN in the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Montclair raced out to a 14-5 lead, with Pryce scoring six points during the spurt. The Cyclones (5-4) battled back to trim the gap to two on a Billy Veras three but a 12-0 Red Hawk run opened the lead to double figures.
  • The Cyclones whittled the deficit to eight on a three-pointer with 6:41 left in the first, but an 11-2 rally, started by a Pryce three-pointer, sent Montclair to a 52-33 advantage. The Red Hawks constructed a 65-42 halftime lead as Veras knocked down a three with seven ticks to go.
  • Montclair shot 68.4% (26-of-38) from the floor in the first half, including 10-of-16 from three.
  • Centenary didn't back down, scoring the first 10 points of the second period and held Montclair without a point for the first 3:41. A KYREE HENRY layup brought the lead back to 20 before the Cyclones embarked on an 8-0 run.
  • The lead got down to 10 before Flanagan nailed a jumper to kickstart an 8-0 spurt. Pryce converted two free throws to make 86-69 with 7:35 to go before Centenary scored 10 of 11 points to cut the gap to single digits.
  • Pryce once again was the catalyst, scoring five of seven points during a 7-0 run, keeping the Cyclones at bay. They couldn't get any closer, with MIKE JACKSON hitting two free throws to seal the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • In two career games against Centenary, Pryce has tallied 50 points, including 28 last season. He shot 9-of-11 from the floor and was 2-for-2 from three.
