Pryce Sets Career-High As DeSales Outlasts Men's Basketball In Triple Overtime

Center Valley, Pa. – The Montclair State men's basketball team suffered their first setback after being outlasted by DeSales University 96-94 in triple overtime in the Championship Game of the Al Senavitis Memorial Tournament Friday.

KEYON PRYCE, who scored a career-high 29 points for Montclair (10-1), was named to the All-Tournament Team.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Bulldogs (10-2) raced out to a 19-4 advantage over the first 13:18. A 6-0 Red Hawk spurt trimmed the deficit to 10 before Montclair closed to a single possession with 3:19 left in the first. MIKE JACKSON polished off a 7-0 run with a three-pointer after opening the spurt with a jumper.
  • The hosts would tally seven of the final 12 points of the first half, but KIERAN FLANAGAN knocked out a three with two ticks left to cut the halftime deficit to five. DeSales was aided by shooting 50% (14-of-28) from the floor, while Montclair was limited to 3-of-15 shooting from behind the arc in the first 20 minutes.
  • The Red Hawks erased the deficit, opening the second half with a 9-0 run, with Pryce tallying five points. The see-saw second half went back and forth, with DeSales jumping back in front 55-47 on the heels of an 11-0 run.
  • Trailing by eight with 5:18 to go, AMIR WILLIAMS knocked down a jumper to whittle the lead down to six before Williams drained a three-pointer following a timeout. The Red Hawks crept back in front, punctuating a 10-0 run with a shot from deep by Pryce.
  • With the score tied at 65, Pryce snapped a tie with a jumper in the paint with 29 seconds remaining. The Red Hawks forced a missed, but a turnover gave the ball back to the hosts with two seconds left. DeSales missed a three-pointer for the win, but Elijah Eberly put back the miss with one second left to force overtime.
  • Montclair did not convert a field goal in the first overtime but went 6-of-8 from the charity stripe. AMIR WILLIAMS hit 1-of-2 from the line with 19 seconds to go to tie things at 73, and the junior rejected a shot at the buzzer to force a second extra session.
  • DeSales scored the first four points of the second stanza before a Christian Guldin triple extended the gap to five with 1:55 left. Pryce hit a three before Guldin made a four-point game with free throws. Williams again cut the lead in half with a bucket before DeSales went 2-of-4 from the line in the final 20 seconds. Flanagan hit a jumper before Pryce sent the game into a third overtime with a buzzer-beating jump shot.
  • Pryce broke a four-point deficit to one with a three with 1:08 left in the third overtime before the Bulldogs pushed the gap to five late in the period. The Red Hawks established the final margin with an AMARI MILLS three but couldn't pick off the inbound pass, and DeSales ran out the clock.
