Breeman Picks Up Double-Double As Men's Basketball Tops Ramapo

Montclair, NJ – STEVEN BREEMAN recorded his second double-double of the year as the Montclair State men's basketball team opened 2023 with a 78-70 triumph over Ramapo in New Jersey Athletic Conference action Wednesday.

Breeman tallied 22 points, and 12 rebounds for Montclair (11-1, 5-0 NJAC) as Anthony Corbo posted a game-high 25 points for Ramapo (5-8, 1-5 NJAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Ramapo took a slight 7-4 advantage before Montclair went on an 11-0 run over the next 1:16, forcing the visitors into a timeout. Montclair stayed on the offensive, with Breeman hitting a triple with 6:55 left in the first to extend the lead to 10.
  • The guests used a 13-5 rally over the ensuing 2:51, getting within a pair before KIERAN FLANAGAN converted from deep. Ramapo closed the period with nine of the final 11 markers, with Elijah Barlow netting seven straight tallies during the spurt.
  • Ramapo shot 50% (15-of-30) from the floor in the first half, including 4-of-11 from three. The Red Hawks knocked down 42.4% (14-of-33) but shot 33% (7-of-21) from behind the arc.
  • The Roadrunners netted the first five points of the second stanza before KEYON PRYCE brought the deficit down to four. Breeman tallied four straight markers to even the score at 45 before consecutive three-pointers from MIKE JACKSON and Breeman inched the home squad back in front. Breeman blocked a shot, snared the board, and hit the three for a go-ahead bucket.
  • Breeman once again was the catalyst, draining a shot from deep with 9:29 to push Montclair back up by a point. It was the first of three straight triples, with Pryce and Jackson also converting.
  • Ramapo closed to within a point at 66-65, but the duo of Breeman and Jackson stretched the lead to seven with chances from deep on back-to-back series. Ramapo would get as close as five the rest of the way as Montclair closed out the win.
