Piscataway, NJ – The Montclair State men and women's swimming and diving teams opened up competition at the Metropolitan Championships Thursday afternoon.
The 800-freestyle relay was the lone event that was contested on Thursday. Swimming in the second heat, the women's team took fourth out of 10 teams. The foursome of
JULIE TIEDEMANN,
TAYLOR WADDLETON,
JULIANA SKOPP-CARDILLO, and
EMILY ROTHAMEL turned in a time of 7:56.24. They took over 20 seconds off their seed time and collected 52 team points. Rowan won the event with a time of 7:45.54, followed by TCNJ and Mary Washington.
The men's side also swam in the relay, placing sixth overall. The quartet of
LUCAS GOMES,
GREG KARBACK,
SCOTT ACKERSON, and
TYLER DORSETT clocked in at 7:11.02, just a shade over a second of our fifth. The Red Hawks were 13 seconds quicker than their seed time, while TCNJ won the event in 6:38.62.
Action tomorrow begins at 9:30 am for the preliminary round, followed by the finals at 5:30 pm. On the docket, tomorrow is the 500-freestyle, 200-IM, 50-freestyle, Women 3-meter diving, Men 1-meter diving, and the 200-medley relay.
