New Brunswick, NJ – Sophomore
SPENSER DUBOIS recorded an NCAA Division III "B" qualifying time in the 100 breaststroke and reset the school record twice to highlight the third day of action for the Montclair State men's and women's teams at the Metropolitan Conference Championships on Saturday at Rutgers University.
The women's team jumped up a spot to fourth on Saturday as it has totaled 576.5 points through the first three days. Meanwhile the men held in fifth place with a three-day score of 393 points.
Dubois became the first Red Hawk male swimmer to record an NCA qualifying time since Steven Roth did it in the 100 butterfly at the 2017 Metropolitan Championships. Dubois began the day by breaking the school standard with a time of 56.15 in the morning preliminaries. The was the second-best time heading into the finals where he would go stroke-for-stroke with TCNJ's Shawn Kushner. In the final, Kushner would win out by .06 seconds as Dubois swam 55.72 dropping the school mark by two seconds from the start of the day. Kevin Clauss held the previous mark at 57.74 set in 2019.
The men's 200 freestyle relay team of
LUCAS GOMES,
TYLER DORSETT,
JOSH ZITOMER and Greg Karbck placed fourth with a time of 1:27.27 with the women placing fifth in their event.
LIDIA BOGUSLAWSKA,
JULIANA SKOPP-CARDILLO,
ABBY BROCK and
SOPHIA SHOPOVICK combined on a time of 1:39.16.
Gomes was sixth in the 100 butterfly posting a time of 50.62 seconds and the women had two in the Top 10 of the 200 freestyle. Boguslawska was fifth with a time of 1:58.05 with Skopp-Cardillo finishing 10
th at 1:59.82. Brock had an individual Top 5 finish of her own, taking fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.97). Dennis Delargy was eighth in the 100 backstroke (52.92 seconds) with
ERIN BARRETT (1:00.34) and
EMILY ROTHAMEL (1:00.46) finishing sixth and seventh, respectively in the 100 backstroke.
Montclair State closed out the night with a fourth-place showing by the men and fifth-place standing for the women in the 400 medley relay. Delargy,
BRANDON DO, Englert and Karback recorded a time of 3:33.50. Rothamel, Brock, Juliet DiPasquale and Skopp-Cardillo combined on a time of 4:04.40.
The Red Hawks conclude action in the conference championship meet on Sunday, February 20 with the last of the seven events contested. The preliminaries begin at 9:30 am with the finals taking place at 5:30 pm.
