EMILY ROTHAMEL won the 200-yard backstroke while sophomore
SPENSER DUBOIS notched his second NCAA "B" cut as the Montclair State swimming and diving teams closed out the four-day Metropolitan Championships Sunday.
The Red Hawk woman placed overall with 881 points as the men's side also took fifth with 596 points.
A day after setting the school record in the 100-breaststroke in both the preliminary and final rounds, Dubois took the pool and broke the 200-breaststroke record today. He notched a time of 2:03.35 during the morning and placed third in the event in the finals, clocking in at 2:03.79. Dubois broke the previous in the 200 by nearly three seconds.
LUCAS GOMES also set a new school standard in the 100-freestyle, clocking in at 46.28. His mark clipped the previous record by .01, which was held by Charles Cobbertt.
Sophomore
RYAN KAPPES took fifth in the 1,650-freestyle as he touched the wall in 16:22.11, while
DENNIS DELARGY led a pair of Red Hawks to top-16 times in the 200-backstroke. DeLargy was 11th in 1:55.49, as
GREG KARBACK was 16th in 1:58.77.
CHRYSTIAN MUHLEISEN also gave MSU points in that event, placing 23rd in 2:02.27.
Rookie
BRANDON DO placed 13th in the 200-breaststroke (2:10.39), while
SANTIAGO VANEGAS took 18th in 2:14.82. The men's side also had two compete in the "B" finals of the 200-fly, with
TYLER DORSETT winning the "B" final in 1:56.29 as
JOHN ENGLERT was 13th in 2:03.71. They closed out the event with a fifth-place time of 3:12.01, as the team was led by Gomes, Karback, Kappes, and Dubois.
Rothamel became a two-time Metropolitan Champion as she won the 200-back for the second time in her career. She was over two seconds clear of the field, notching a first-place time of 2:07.43.
ERIN BARRETT won the "B" final as she finished in 2:12.54 while
SOPHIA SHOPOVICK (2:13.96),
MOLLY MOORE (2:16.99), and
SKYE SENER (2:19.49) also qualified for finals in that event.
JULIET DI PASQUALE took 15th in the 200-fly (2:19.77) as
GIANNA ANTONELLI, and
SARAH BENT finished back-to-back. Antonelli was 18th in 2:22.96, and Bent finished in 2:25.23. The Red Hawks finished off with a fifth-place time of 3:42.71 in the 400-freestyle relay. That foursome included Tiedemann, Skopp-Cardillo, Ciaravino, and Boguslawska.
