North Myrtle Beach, SC – Rightfielder Megan Tomoney homered and drove in two runs as Penn State-Abington knocked off Montclair State, 8-3 in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic on Friday afternoon.
MSU (4-3) did have one more game remaining on its schedule in South Carolina, however their contest with Cairn University was canceled due to rain.
Montclair State took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
ALYSSA BOROZAN opened the inning with a single and went to third as
KAYLA COSENTINO smacked a double up the gap in left field. After a ground out,
DANIELLE SIBILIO singled back through the middle bringing in both runners.
The Lions tied the game in the second. Jenna Gorman and Callie Chambers singled back-to-back with one out. Hailey Gamble doubled in both runners with two outs knotting the game at 2-2.
AMBER REED put the Red Hawks back on top in the third with a two-out RBI double, however PSU-Abington took back the lead, 4-3 in the top fourth on a two-run homer by Megan Tomoney.
PSU-Abington broke the game open with a four-run fifth inning. Maddie Duffy delivered a pair of runs with a base hit up the middle with Jenna Gorman adding two more runs on base hit making the score 8-3.
The rest was left up to Lions righthander Elyssa Bohr, who retired nine of the final 12 batters she faced. Bohr (2-4) allowed seven hits and three runs (two earned) with two strikeouts and a walk. Montclair State righthander
ALI CAVALLARO (2-2) took the loss.
Borozan was 2-for-3 for MSU.
The Red Hawks return home and are expected to open up their home schedule on Thursday, March 17. Montclair State will host Centenary University at the MSU Softball Stadium with first pitch of the doubleheader set for 3:00 pm.
