Boyle Tallies 100th Career Point as Men's Lacrosse Knocks Off Misericordia

Montclair, NJ – Senior CHRISTIAN BOYLE of the Montclair State men's lacrosse team tallied his 100th career point as the Red Hawks knocked off Misericordia 18-16 in non-conference play Wednesday.
 
Boyle and JOE COVINO notched three goals for MSU (4-2), while Jared Pelliccione scored five for the Cougars (4-1).
 
The senior Boyle entered the game needing four points to cross the century mark and opened his account on the day with a goal 1:05 in. The Red Hawks doubled their lead at the 8:57 mark, with rookie ETHAN MOUNIER finding THOMAS ROPER for the tally. The Cougars scored four of the following five markers, with Robert Wagner scoring twice during the run to push MU in front 4-3 at the end of the first.
 
Boyle inched closer to 100 points as he pulled the team even with a tally off a feed from JOE COVINO. The two sides traded goals, but once again, Misericordia went on a 4-1 run. That rally stretched the lead to the largest of the night Misericordia at 9-6. Montclair ended the quarter positively, scoring twice in 55 seconds to enter halftime trailing by one.
 
The Cougars forced 12 Red Hawk turnovers in the first half, with Montclair goalkeeper DAVID METZGER stopping six first-half opportunities.
 
The Red Hawks needed just 39 seconds to pull even as MATT DANCSECS recorded an unassisted goal. The Cougars netted three of the following four markers, with JACK CLEARY potting the lone Red Hawk tally during the spurt. Montclair ended the frame well, scoring the final four goals. MIKE MCCREERY recorded the first two goals before JOE COVINO tallied the next two. The hosts finished the frame with the last four goals and entered the final quarter leading by two,
 
The Cougars got within one on a Carson Venis goal, but MATTHEW HOLLAND and Covino scored to extend the Red Hawks' advantage to three. Boyle's 100th point came on the Red Hawks' final goal of the day, as his unassisted marker pushed the lead to a four-goal cushion. The Cougars scored twice to trim the deficit to 18-16, but Metzger and the Red Hawk defense held tough and prevented the comeback.
 
WILSON SMITH anchored the defense with two caused turnovers and five ground balls, while Metzger stopped a season-high 18 shots in the victory. Covino and Boyle paced the team with five points, while DAVID DRISCOLL was 23-of-32 in the "X." Misericordia was led by six points from Robert Wagner, as Chris Straub and Matt Coates combined for 12 saves.
 
The Red Hawks continue their homestand on Saturday to host Lycoming at noon.
