Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State women's lacrosse team dropped a 12-8 decision to the Stevens Institute of Technology Wednesday evening.
The Ducks (7-0) received three goals from Emily Leiby and Zoe Cook, while
KAITLYN ARCEDE matched a season-high of three goals for the Red Hawks (1-4).
The Red Hawks opened the scoring 1:03 into the contest, with
TRISTIN KONEN scoring 1:03 into the game. Stevens closed out the first quarter with three of the last four goals, including a tally by Leiby with five seconds left. The Ducks continued to hold the momentum, scoring four times in a 3:35 span to open a six-goal lead at the halftime break,
Stevens outshot MSU 17-11 and doubled their ground balls 12-6 in the opening half.
After trading goals in the third quarter, the Red Hawks outscored Stevens 5-3 in the fourth and final frame. The Ducks notched the first two goals before Konen started the Red Hawk rally with a man-down goal 4:25 into the fourth period.
RHIANNON BROWN and Arcede tallied goals before Stevens finished their scoring with a Camryn Rogers tally with 6:25 left. Arcede and Brown registered goals but were unable to get closer as Stevens held MSU without a shot over the final 2:01 of the game.
HALEY DORAN tallied three assists, while Konen added four caused turnovers and three ground balls.
AMBER GONZALEZ notched a team-high seven draw controls while
ALLYN LILIEN made 12 saves in the setback. Goalkeeper Lauren Cunniff made 10 saves for Stevens while Natalie Fitzpatrick and Morgan Westerby had five draw controls for Stevens.
MSU returns home on Saturday to host Moravian at 3 pm.
