Montclair, NJ – Senior attack
KAITLYN ARCEDE scored five goals as Montclair State snapped a two-game losing streak with a 14-10 victory over Moravian College at Sprague Field on Saturday.
Senior
TRISTIN KONEN added four goals and an assist for the Red Hawks (2-4).
RHIANNON BROWN had three goals with
MORGAN CONNON recording a goal and two assists.
The Greyhounds jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 69 seconds before Montclair answered with three goals to take the lead. Konen scored with 10:50 left and against with four minutes to go. Arcede found the back of the net with three ticks left giving the Red Hawks a 3-2 lead heading into the second.
Moravian's Megan Donnelly tied it up 40 seconds into the second, but the Red Hawks countered with three goals. Konen collected the first off a feed from Connon. Brown added two un assisted scores helping MSU to a 6-3 advantage with 9:43 to play before halftime. Back-to-back goals by Moravian closed the gap to one, but Konen and Arcede scored in the last five minutes as Montclair State led 8-6 at the break.
Arcede's third to open the second half was followed up by a
HALEY DORAN goal increasing MSU's lead to 10-6. Arcede would get another one in the period with Brown scoring late as MSU would go to the fourth quarter with a 12-7 lead.
After Arcede connected for the fifth time to start the fourth, Moravian pumped in three straight goals, the last by Kendall Lomascola with nine minutes remaining pulling the Greyhounds within 13-10. But that would be as close as the visitors would get. Connon added the last Montclair State goal with just over three minutes left.
Goalkeeper
ALLYN LILIEN made 14 saves and six ground balls for the Red Hawks. Defender Kairlin Zazzaro had an outstanding day with eight caused turnovers and five ground balls. Doran and
AMBER GONZALEZ pulled down four and three draw controls, respectively.
The Red Hawks return to action on Wednesday, March 23 at home. MSU hosts Farmingdale State at 4:00 pm.
