Connon Leads Women's Lacrosse to Second Straight Victory

Senior Nets Four Goals in 14-4 Victory

Montclair, NJ – Senior MORGAN CONNON scored four goals as the Montclair State women's lacrosse team topped Farmingdale State 14-4 Wednesday afternoon.

Connon also tallied an assist as TRISTIN KONEN scored three goals for the Red Hawks (3-4), who won their second straight contest. Farmingdale State (2-5) was paced by a pair of goals from Marina Zumbrunn.

The Red Hawks wasted little time, scoring three times in the first 3:28 of the game. RHIANNON BROWN opened the scoring before Connon and KAITLYN ARCEDE tallied markers 22 seconds apart. The Red Hawk defense proved to be huge, holding Farmingdale to zero shots in the first quarter while attempting 11 of their own. Montclair would end the period the way they started, extending the lead to 6-0. Konen converted a Connon feed before AMBER GONZALEZ was the recipient of a Konen assist. Connon capped off the first period barrage off a feed from Brown to send MSU into the second with a six-goal lead.

Back-to-back tallies by Arcede and Gonzalez stretched the lead to eight before the Rams cut into the lead. Zumbrunn broke the scoreless streak with a free position marker before Chayanne Melendez converted a Megan Diamond feed. Connon and Konen added goals late in the frame, but Zumbrunn netted her second of the afternoon to establish the 10-3 halftime margin.

The Red Hawks outshot Farmingdale State 18-4 and forced 11 Rams turnovers in the first 30 minutes.

Montclair State used the first three tallies of the second half to open up a double-digit advantage, with HALEY DORAN, Konen, and Connon registering goals. The Rams would finish off the third with a goal with 1:41 to go, but ALLYN LILIEN denied a free-position try with 22 ticks left in the stanza to send the game into the fourth. KARLI NEVARD got into the action as she scored 1:57 into the frame. That would close out the scoring on the day, as Lilien denied four Rams shot attempts in the fourth quarter.

Lilien made six saves in goal for the Red Hawks, as Gonzalez corralled six draw controls. For Farmingdale, Anna Zaborowska had seven ground balls, six caused turnovers, and four draw controls in the setback.

On Saturday, the Red Hawks visit Hood College facing the Blazers at 3 pm.
