Red Hawks Drops Second Straight with Loss to FDU-Florham

Montclair, NJ – Sophomore midfielder Katie Walsh and junior Kylee Garcia combined to score 13 goals as FDU-Florham used a solid first half for a 20-2 victory over Montclair State at Sprague Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Brynn Levins netted three goals with Lizzy Escudero Alexis Ashton, each tallying twice as the Devils won their second straight game (2-0). FDU-Florham, now 2-0 on the year, also snapped a nine-game winning streak against Montclair State, winning for the first time since a 9-8 win at Sprague Field in March 2010.

TRISTIN KONEN and MORGAN CONNON scored once for the Red Hawks (0-2).

Konen put Montclair on the board 15 seconds into the game, converting a free-position attempt. However, the rest of the period would belong to the Devils, who scored the following 13 goals over the final 29 minutes, including five in a row to end the first. Shortly after Konen tallied with Levins giving the Devils the lead with 11:28 left, Garcia got the first goal. Garcia's second made it a 3-1 contest before Escudero and Walsh (7 goals) netted the final two for a 5-1 FDU-Florham lead heading into the second.

Garcia, who finished with six goals, opened the scoring to 6-1 with her third tally 31 seconds into the second quarter. Ashton followed a minute later, and her second with nine minutes remaining widened the lead to 10-1. Walsh collected the next two before Garcia closed out the half registering her fourth goal with two minutes remaining.

Garcia also posted two assists and three caused turnovers, with Kayla Brunner and Emma Barborak forcing two. Julie Kubch stopped seven shots before giving way to Maddie Apap, who had six saves.

ALLYN LILIEN made 11 saves for MSU. KAITLIN ZAZZARO recorded four ground balls along with a pair of caused turnovers.

The Red Hawks are back on the road for their next game on Saturday, March 5. Montclair is in Dallas, PA taking on Misericordia University at 1:00 pm.
