Montclair Tops Owls Twice by Identical 5-0 Scores

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State pitching staff put up 14 innings of zeroes on the scoreboard as the Red Hawks swept Keene State by identical 5-0 victories on Saturday at the MSU Softball Stadium.

Third baseman jenna Meluso and catcher DANIELLE SIBILIO each drove in three runs for the Red Hawks, who upped their record 12-5 on the season. MSU also improved to 7-1 all-time against the Owls (8-4).

In the opener, righthanders ALI CAVALLARO and SAGE RIZZI combined on a four-hit shutout with Cavallaro recording the first 20 outs as she improved to 7-3 on the year. Cavallaro struck out seven.

MSU added to the lead in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by KATIE DEBELL that brought home Cosentino.

The second game belonged to righthander KAYLA VOLANTE (5-1), who tossed her second shutout ouf the season in the three-hit, complete-game effort. She struck out two and walked two.
