JOHN GRIFFITH set a new school record in the discus while junior
COURTNEY DALTON was victorious in the 3000 meters highlighting Montclair State's season-opening appearance at the Oscar Moore Invitational on Saturday.
Griffith, the NJAC Outdoor Rookie of the Year in 2021, picked up where he left off, posting a distance of 49.83 meters to win the event while also breaking the 11-year-old mark held by Mario Morrison-Bird (48.96 meters at Penn Relays). Griffth would also finish second in the shot put at 14.48 meters and was seventh in the hammer throw 41.34 meters.
Meanwhile Dalton posted a time of 11:08.30 to win the 3000 meters and was one of three Red Hawks n the Top 10.
KELLY WECKSTEIN (11:32.87) was seventh the
CHRISTIANA CAPRIO (12:16.31) finishing 10
th.
TARA MASTROIANNI recorded a personal best 34.57 meters in the discus, placing third overall.
DAMIEN VALENTINE threw 60.93 meters for third in the javelin with
ANTHONY DIMAULO leaping 6.98 meters for a third-place finish in the long jump.
CAMERYN MARTIN and
VANCE THELEMAQUE were in the Top 5 of the 110 hurdles. Martin ran 15.30 for second with Thelemaque running 16.81 seconds for fifth. Thelemaque was also seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (1:01.15).
MARCUS LENNON was third in the 100 meters posting a time of 11.70 seconds and
SEBASTIAN CORTES was ninth in the 400 meters (52.35 seconds).
AURELIA SHANGA leaped 1.29 meters for a seventh-place finish in the high jump while
EVE ROSADO threw 16.16 meters for 10
th in the javelin.
MIA PEGUERO (4.29 meters) and Sidney Whitestone (4.24 meters) were ninth and 11
th, respectively in the long jump and the women's 4x100 relay team was third posting a time of 54.50 seconds.
The Red Hawks will be back in action next Friday and Saturday, April 1-2 at the Ramapo Track and Field Invitational in Mahwah, NJ.
