LAST TIME OUT
The Red Hawks (6-1) blanked Stevens 15-0 in the first game of their three-game set on Friday. PATRICK CUCCURULLO scattered three hits in six shutout innings while MATTHEW TIPLADY tossed three innings of one-hit ball to earn his first collegiate save. In the victory, JOE NORTON went 5-for-7 with four RBI, as his five hits were one short of tying the school record for hits in a game. AWARD SEASON
Montclair State swept the NJAC pitching awards this week, as lefty PATRICK CUCCURULLO was tabbed the NJAC Pitcher of the Week, with JACOB DEMBIN garnering Rookie Pitcher of the Week honors. Cuccurullo got it started with six hitless innings in the opener, a 19-0 Red Hawk victory. He faced just two batters over the minimum, striking out six and walking two as he picked up his first win of the season (1-1). Cuccurullo would combine with two relievers on a one-hitter, the first one-hitter by Montclair State since April 14, 2009, against Rensselaer during a 9-1 triumph. Dembin made his first career start and got his first career win as Montclair completed the sweep with a 5-0 win in Game 2 of a doubleheader on Sunday. Dembin tossed five shutout innings, striking out six and walking one.
