Montclair, NJ – Junior midfielder
TYLER MCCREERY scored twice and added four assists while four other Red Hawks recorded hat tricks as Montclair State rolled to a 22-3 victory over Gwynedd Mercy at Sprague Field on Saturday afternoon.
Montclair (1-2) earned its first victory as it scored the first 22 goals of the contest, including nine each in the first and second quarters.
MATTHEW HOLLAND tallied three goals and three assists with
MIKE MCCREERY and
CHRISTIAN BOYLE both registering two goals and three assists. Matt Dansecs collected three goals as MSU saw 11 different players find the back of the net. The Red Hawks also converted 8-of-9 man-up opportunities in the contest.
Dansecs gave MSU a 1-0 lead three minutes into the game and the Red Haws scored twice in a 31-second span to widen its lead to three.
CONNOR GABILANES connected with 8:16 to play before Montclair struck for three man-up goals. Dancsecs got the first with
MIKE MCCREERY making it 6-0. Holland got the last and added one more goal for an 8-0 advantage.
ETHAN MOUNIER scored the last goal giving Montclair State a nine-goal advantage heading into the seconds.
Holland set up the first two goals of the second as defenseman
WILSON SMITH and Boyle registered goals in the first four minutes.
THOMAS ROPER fed
MIKE MCCREERY for the 12
th goal and then got one of his own with 8:11 to play for a 13-0 Red Hawk lead.
Montclair kept it going with four straight man-up scores as Boyle, Holland,
TYLER MCCREERY and Gabilanes scored over a three-minute span. Dancsecs closed out the half with his third goal as Montclair led 18-0 at the break.
Mounier, Gabilanes and Roper each finished with two goals. Jack Noberto chipped in with a goal and assist.
LIAM HORTON accounted for the other Red Hawk score.
Montclair State went 22-of-29 on faceoffs.
ANDREA FIORENZA was 7-of-9 with three ground balls with
DAVID DRISCOLL winning 6-of-7.
DARIO SIRNI (two ground balls) was 6-of-10. Goalkeeper
DAVID METZGER stopped seven shots over three periods.
JAMOND RANDOLPH made one save in his 15 minutes of action.
The Red Hawks are back in action on Wednesday, March 9 with a road contest in Maryland. MSU faces McDaniel at 4:00 pm in the first matchup between the teams since 1993.
