Cosentino Drives in Three in 10-2 Victory

Montclair, NJ – Junior leftfielder KAYLA COSENTINO drove in three runs in the opener as Montclair State split its NJAC doubleheader with Rutgers-Camden at the MSU Softball Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

Cosentino's effort propelled the Red Hawks (18-11, 2-6 NJAC) to a 10-2 victory before Scarlet Raptors (6-11, 2-6 NJAC) came back to earn the split with a 4-1 triumph.

After Rutgers-Camden took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second of Game 1, MSU responded with six in its half. ANNALESA DILAURENZIO drove in the first run with a fielder's choice and ALYSSA BOROZAN singled to put the Red Hawks in front. ALEXIS LAW added an RBI single before Cosentino was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for a 4-1 advantage.

DANIELLE SIBILIO delivered a run-scoring hit for the fifth run and AMBER REED lofted a sacrifice fly making the score 6-1. Law recorded a second RBI in the third on a sac fly and Cosentino widened the lead to 9-1 driving in two with a single. Sibilio drove in the final Montclair run in the fifth.

Volante improved to 9-3 as she allowed just one earned run and three hits. She struck out three and walked one. Borozan was 3-for-3 with Sibilio going 2-for-3.

In the second game, Raptor righthander Lindsey Rodzon scattered 10 hits and kept the Red Hawks off the board until the seventh inning.

Meanwhile, Rutgers-Camden was able to take a 2-0 lead in the second as Jayden Hunter scored on a throwing error with Emily Dubiago driving in another with a single down the right-field line. Kimmy Mussara's RBI double in the fourth widened the lead to three runs with Zoe Rodriguez notching the final run in the sixth with a base hit.

Rodzon was able to escape a mini-jam in the fourth, getting a fly out with the bases loaded. MSU would finally break through in the bottom of the seventh. DANIELLE DECARLO singled back through the middle with two outs scoring Sibilio making the score, 4-1. But Rodzon limited the damage there getting a ground out to end the game.
